Leopard

Leopard class are thoroughly enjoying our topic of ‘Batteries Not Included’. Our favourite focus was electricity, where we learnt how to turn the hoover on and even began to use a hair dryer! We have followed a set of instructions to make our own light boxes, which we enjoyed exploring in the dark tent. We also learnt about forces, taking our communication boards to the park to learn about push and pull on the zip wire and asked to be pushed and pulled on the swing!

Leopard class continue to be active in our weekly PE lessons. We are now making the most of the better weather and learning how to ride a bike! We have learnt how to put on our own helmet (with a little bit of help from staff) and how to use the pedals! We are even taking turns on the double bike with a member of staff.

We enjoyed World Book Day. We loved listening to a range of stories and even took part in a ‘Where’s Wally’ hunt in sensory trays!

Leopard Class have had a very exciting term and are looking forward to the Christmas holidays.

We thoroughly enjoyed learning about our local area in the ‘Made in Portsmouth’ topic. We visited the local parks, forest, shops and went on our own bus tour of Portsmouth, pointing out local landmarks. We enjoyed learning about the ‘Seaside and Coast’, using seaweed, stones and shells to create our own art work. As part of the shops project, we completed a paint splat ‘bucket’ session using kitchen utensils! We also made our own sensory bags, dying sand different colours to make pictures. We learnt about all the different shops in our local area and visited the CO-OP to buy our own snack for the week. We practised using our Makaton whilst at the shop and carried our own shopping back to school.

During November, it was ‘Friendship Week’. Leopard class joined their friends from other classes in the environmental area, park and library. They all loved taking turns on the swing and using the wheelbarrows. Leopard class worked hard on sharing games with their friends.

In class, we continued with our English and Maths learning. We were matching symbol to symbol for topic words and used the iPad and cameras to record where we went. We were counting shells, stones, leaves and sticks, and even sorted them by shape and colour.

We have been very active this term during weekly PE and swimming lessons. The focus in PE has been on gymnastics and travelling around apparatus. Each week everyone’s confidence has grown and now we are all having a go on the equipment before asking for help. We have got really good at walking along a beam, as well as jumping safely off the equipment.

As part of our RE day, we learnt about Advent. We made our own Christmas card, class wreath, Christmas tree and followed instructions to make a Christingle. In English we followed symbols and made our own mince pies to share with our friends.

This term concluded with our ‘Pompey Christmas’ show where we learnt about different modes of transport and different places in the city. Leopard class were amazing, with the girls taking part in a Cinderella panto and the boys playing football at Fratton Park.

Leopard class would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year and are very excited about our topic next term of ‘Batteries Not Included’.
